there have been a few times in the middle of the night that i have had the same incident. i would be on my bed just trying to sleep. i swear i fet like i was wide awake. suddenly i felt really scared. it seemd like there was osme sort of presence there surrounding me. i couldnt open my eyes, i couldnt move, and i couldnt scream.i felt a dizziness trying to take over my body. i felt myself almost drifting into some kind of scary place i knew something bad would happen if i let myself go with the flow. i fought w all my strength to open my eyes and when i did i felt like my body was worn out. i got p and ran out of my room. one time i watched tv so i could relax then trie dto back into my room to sleep again as soon as i colsed my eyes they felt heavy n teh same thing happened again that night. sometimes i tell myself that if it happenes not to be scraed and go w the flow to see what happenes. maybe i will end up seeing something amazing but whenever it happenes to me i feel almost scared to death to let myself do anything. i have never felt so scared in my lif. i also feel like i cant breath when it is happening. one time it was happening to me i thought i heard my mom come into the room and try to get me up and when she was talking her voice turned into a scary sounding scream and that frightened me even more because i thought something evil ws there. it really sounded scary when i used all my strength to open my eyes, noone was there and i ran out of my room again. what does this mean?

Re: supernatural feeling
Sat, October 22, 2005 - 7:56 PMIt could be an "old hag attack," basically a vampiric spirit that attacks people when they are just drifting off to sleep or waking up. Symptoms include paralasis or a weight that seems to hold you down, auditory or visual "hallucinations" or a feeling of unease, and fatigue once all is said and done. If it is a psychic attack of some kind, normal psychic defense methods should work -visualization of protection, being surrounded by white light, or actual offensive techniques. I favor a barrier of white light that spins and projects and retracts sharp barbs -defense from all sides, even from sneak attacks.

Sun, October 23, 2005 - 10:51 AMSo, it only happens in one particular room, can you describe your residence?

Re: supernatural feeling
Sun, October 23, 2005 - 12:43 PMwell not one particulat room. it has happened to me once before while i was at my friends house for a month. then that one time in the living room. but mostly where i go to lie down for sleep. this house is pretty old though but the only people that lived here before us moved out someone couldve died in it and they didnt tell us. the woman was old and her husband had died. so maybe its something in the house. noone else has had an experience like that though. -

Re: supernatural feeling
Sun, October 23, 2005 - 8:28 PMIt really does sound like an Old Hag Attack to me. It may be a disembodied spirit that was in the house before you moved in, or it may be someone you know who is currently sick and unintentionally drawing energy from you while they are sleeping themselves. There was a thread on this tribe dealing with Old Hag Attacks... here.... spookyweirdness.tribe.net/threa...24ceaf -

Sun, October 23, 2005 - 9:23 PMNo offense, but I believe you are jumping to conclusions far too quick. It may be that, or it may not. Gather information first, before making conclusions. -

Re: supernatural feeling
Mon, October 24, 2005 - 12:07 PMNo offense taken, however, 1) I have some experience with "old hag attack," and 2) the symptoms fit the "disease." I'm not jumping to conclusions so much as others are ignoring/misreading some of Amy's posts and/or repeating questions to which she's already given answers in the course of her explanation. Information has been gathered and so far as I've seen, the answers were straightfoward without need for clarification.
We've had three suggestions of what it could be:
1. Old Hag Attack
2. Sleep paralysis
3. Shadow entity
One and two are pretty much the same thing. Sleep paralysis is simply the scientific explanation for the age-old phenomena formerly known as Old Hag Attack. And so far as I can tell, Shadow Entities, when they are malevolent, could very well be some phenomena akin to Old Hag Attacks. All these experiences can be dealt with through psychic self-defense. At its most basic, psychic self-defense is merely creative visualization empowered by belief, and so it should work no matter if this is an actual psychic attack or if someone tries to explain it away scientifically. If they give comfort, common methods used to deter vampires (garlic, salt, silver, holy symbols) could even be used. In short, anything which enhances a person's belief in their own safety and power are helpful in these situations.
If you have any better ideas, by all means, speak up.
Guess I was a little offended after all... sorry. Don't take it personally. I'll likely not give this another thought since it's not worth arguing. I've made my assessment and given my suggestions. It's not my problem; it's Amy's. So... whatever she chooses to do about her nocturnal experiences is entirely in her hands, not ours. -

Re: supernatural feeling
Mon, October 24, 2005 - 1:43 PMWell, I don't have a complete picture as of yet, so I don't draw conclusions until I have a complete, or near complete picture (call it a habit cemented by working 12 years as a tech support over the phone. There's 12 possibilities in both directions (including yours), but without additional information is required.
You might see some questions as being repeated or ignoring information. I am not doing that. What I'm doing, is getting clarification, and it never hurts to get that.

Re: supernatural feeling
Mon, October 24, 2005 - 6:58 AMAmy,
This has happened to me more than a few times. The first time it happened it was shortly after my stepfather passed away. I was very relaxed and coming out of sleep when I felt a presence in the room and a heavy weight on my body. I was FROZEN in fear and couldn't move and too afraid to open my eyes. (I associated it with my stepdad at the time)
The times it has happened after that, it was the same feeling. Heavy weight on my body, can't move, absolutely frozen in fear. I've mostly experienced it at my mom's house. My mom has experienced it as well.
I did some research on it and it was described as sleep paralysis. I noticed the same thing happens to me when I'm trying to wake up from a bad dream and my body doesn't cooperate with my mind. It's like you get stuck. Your mind is awake, but your body is still in deep sleep mode. SCARY stuff!
As far as you feeling like you were drifting off somewhere, I think your body was so relaxed (even though your mind wasn't) you may have been accidentaly moving toward Astral Projection. The first time I experienced AP, it was scary, but once I let myself go, it was/is quite enjoyable. The only time it happens is when I am completely relaxed; in the middle wake and sleep.

Re: supernatural feeling
Mon, October 24, 2005 - 2:02 PMAmy,
To let you know you are not alone. I also faced the same type of encounter from 1998 to 2003. The difference for me was it only occurred on one room in my house, my guest bedroom. Luckily I did not have to stay there that often. From what you describe it seems to follow you and not be based in the place itself like mine was. So far everyone has given some great concepts and credible thoughts. In my situation it was a type of malevolent spirit that was sealed to the room itself (and part of the hallway as well) I did everything I could, cleansed the room and the house, tried to communicate with the entity, even had the entire house blessed by multiple religious figures. Finally I was able to rid myself of the problem. I sold the house. I know that will not work for you. I was able to deal with the attacks with protective measures but that still did not stop it from affecting others who stayed...or tried to stay in the room. (My close friend refused to come to my house during the last year I lived there). Just remember you have just as much power as whatever is out there. Good luck and I wish you the best in you endeavor! -

Re: supernatural feeling
Mon, October 24, 2005 - 8:49 PMwell everything you guys have suggested could all be what i experienced. it all sounds the same and seems related. what if my mind was awake and i knew what was going on but my body was so relaxed that i could feel the presence of something there and it was a bad feeling and i was too paralized to move? because i couldnt scream, i had a frightening feeling. i couldve been frightened because i couldn't move but i couldvebeen so scared because i just had some feeling that i wasn't alone and i felt like i was falling into a trans that could be astro projection but what if it was some supernatural thing trying to harm me or contact me and i was to scared to just let what would happen just happen? well those are just a few quiestons. anyways to answer randy, my experience has happened to me in the place i go to sleep. my bedroom now that i have slept in since january and my bedroom at my friends house before that. its happend to me 5 times here. 1 time at my friends house, and halfway on the couch in my living room just after i had an attack in my room. maybe my body does become really relaxed because those are the places i fall asleep, but why was my mind fully awake? how does that happen? i swear it felt like something was holding me down and sending me harmful vibes. i do remmeber during the dizzy feeling i am halfway btwn scared and calm because half of me wants to go with the flow and see what happens and maybe it would be neat, but the other half senses it is dangerous. -

I've experienced what you describe too, and heard about it on some show or another too. I believe it's basically just this mundane experience. It is freaky, but basically mundane. I perceive the presence with me to be aliens, but I believe in the explanation above, not that I'm being visited. I have a fear of abductions is all, and it comes out at a moment like that.
The mind is an awesome and fearful thing at the same time -

Re: supernatural feeling
Wed, October 26, 2005 - 11:22 AMThe power of the mind is intense. Sometimes I think about how easy it would be to go crazy. What's amazing, is that we have the power to control feelings and experiences with our mind and we don't even use half of them.

Re: supernatural feeling
Wed, October 26, 2005 - 3:39 PMI have experienced this phenomena since childhood. And so has my mother , she explained the "Hag" theory to me , the best she knew how, however her explanation did not quench my thirst. Hags are supposed to ride their unsuspecting victims as they fall off to sleep,in an attempt to drain vital life force energy.I have done plenty of research regarding the "Hag Riding" theory, and there a plenty of theories out here , to say the least. A few of them being sleep paralysis and OBE. The theory that I have adopted would be OBE(Out Of Body Experience ). As we all know the spirit ventures out of its physical confines as soon as the body shuts down . With OBE the spirit leaves the body, however it takes human consciousness with it. That explains the reason why we cannot move any part of our body. Concsiousness is now in the realm of spirit and spirit does not have a body , theoretically speaking. I hope this explanation makes sense. -

Thu, November 17, 2005 - 1:40 PMout of body experiences might be exciting, but they're always scaring, If you can avoid going through one it's advised. They can also be dangerous... think about it. What if you don't return? -

Re: supernatural feeling
Fri, December 30, 2005 - 6:52 AMI would like to hear a sleep researchers wiev of this story.
It has ocured to me too. sometimes i wake up with the feeling that somone is rocking the whole me.. Other times i swear there is somone in the room looking at my clock.
A few thimes i have felt like throwing up.. and i have also had this paralysis but still awake feeling. Once i swear there was a spider klimbing from my nose up to the sealing and then dissapear out in nowhere.
It,s simple for somone above IQ 10 to figure this out. Before waking up completely there would be a state where the brain is in a state between consious and unconsious. We then project our unconcious into the consious part of our system! Call it a hallucination to make it simple.
If these things affect your life to much, try consulting a sleep theraphist or try some placebo stuff to rid the effects.
